Q: Is the website discussion timing still on track?
A: Good question. Randy took a bold step by abandoning Powerpoint and going completely nonlinear. We did finish a bit later than planned - apologies for that.
Q: This site is great! How do I join the CIMug?
A: This note was an obvious plant by Ralph. Thanks for the compliment, but it's a good question. Click here to learn more about how to join as an individual or as a corporate member.
Q: Greg, can a Safety Document be associated with a Switching Order? During your presentation, the illustrated Safety Document had a different association.
A: This was associated with Greg's tutorial presentation, stored here. This prompted Randy to create a separate page - see Presentation Questions.
Q: Is the next CIM meeting set yet? I did not see the reference in the Meetings drop down.
A: This is another great question. The spring Europe meeting is not confirmed yet. However the fall meeting is confirmed. It will be hosted by EPRI at Charlotte, NC. For more details see the posting on the EPRI site. If you would like to help with the conference, chat with Randy or Terry or see Volunteer Opportunities.
Q: How would I create a new Wiki? Such as one on utilities experience using CIM based tools.
A: Within Sharepoint, a wiki is really a document library, where .aspx files are stored. If you go to the "breadcrumb trail" immediately above this page and click on Meeting Wiki (after Redmond2008 >) you will see a library of files. Clicking on the file called Home.aspx takes you into the wiki world, which is not much more than linked files. So - if you are a site owner, you can add a wiki today to your site. You will need to have Full Control in order to Create a new site of the wiki type. The document library and the home page will be created automatically. If you want to create a wiki-based site, talk to Randy and he will help you.

I would also mention that is it perfectly legitimate to build a site to advocate CIM within your own utility or vendor setting. I did this for PacifiCorp - the site is access-limited to PacifiCorp employees with CIMug site accounts. You can do the same. For more info, click here.
Q: Greg, will the AMI/HAN initiative produce a generic solution? At the present time, the initiative seems to be based on one AMI and protocol solution, i.e. ZigBee. There are other AMI options and protocol selections.
A: That's a good question too, we'll add it on Presentation Questions.
Q: If the user is not logged in and clicks on the History link on this page, an error is presented - 'This link does not exist...'. Please explain.
A: Randy opened a service request on this...apparently, this is not easy to resolve. See Service Request 146.
Q: Larry Clark reported on Tuesday morning that sometimes it is difficult to navigate through the site, especially to find material related to interoperability testing.
A: We know that usability is poor in some areas of the CIMug site. We're constantly making improvements, but sometimes we don't get enough feedback to know where the problems are. Ideally, we'd like project and group members to make the changes themselves. (See Volunteer Opportunities.) Or, just Ask for Help as soon as you experience frustration, and we will fix the problem.
Q: Aaron Snyder noted on Thursday morning that the header on the new top nav dropdown and document library labeled IEC TC57 WG Draft Documents is nearly identical with those within the IEC TC 57 site and is confusing.
A: Randy will look at this and correct things. This new document library was just added on Wednesday December 17. |
