Here is an example Alert, just received through email. Alerts have clickable hyperlinks to take you directly to the site, the page, or the document library where the change occurred. To set or change an Alert, you can click on "Modify my alert settings".
 
Note:  Alerts are site-specific. Because there are subsites within the CIMug site, you may have to make sure you are on the correct site for the list or library you want to monitor. (The site team is evaluating third-party software which will make this process more user-friendly.)
